Whether you do plenty of walking during your workday or enjoy walking as a form of exercise or recreation, walking does have an impact on your body and your feet.
Proper walking shoes are needed for walking in any form to ensure proper support, cushioning, and alignment in order to prevent issues such as foot fatigue, pain, and other complications.
Adidas walking shoes are ideal for all types of walking and do offer the best support and comfort features.
Walking Shoes VS Running Shoes
Many of us argue that walking shoes and running shoes are exactly the same. However, this is not entirely true. Walking shoes have much different construction and features than that running shoes.
The rule of thumb is that you can walk with a running shoe or walking shoe, though you cannot run or train with a walking shoe.
Thus, when choosing a walking shoe, you need to be clear on the fact that the walking shoe will only be used for running. Otherwise, I would recommend a more suitable running shoe if you want to use it for walking, as well as for running.
Walking shoes are generally much more rigid and heavier than running shoes, whereas running shoes need to flex in certain areas and are much more lightweight to improve speed and performance.
Most fitness walkers can usually find a very suitable running shoe that they can use for running and jogging that will meet their needs much better than most marketed walking shoes.
Running shoes come with many more features than walking shoes and maybe slightly more expensive, but this is because they have the latest technologies and the newest materials to keep up with the market and improve performance for runners.
Here are Some Features Comparing Walking and Running Shoes
Here are a few features of walking and running shoes that are ideal for walking and running;
- Cushioning – Cushioning refers to the foam midsole or insole cushioning that is used in a walking or running shoe to absorb impact and provide comfort. Runners need much more cushioning as they hit the ground with much harder impact. They generally need plenty of heel and forefoot cushioning. Walkers will need some extra forefoot cushioning and less heel cushioning. For fitness walkers, more lightweight cushioning will be advised.
- Heel Height – Runners mostly need a built-up heel for stability as they strike the ground with different parts of their feet. So, depending on how your feet strike, you will need a different heel height. As most walkers have a heel strike, they will need a higher heel. For walking, I would suggest a heel-to-toe drop of 8mm or less rather than the 10mm or 12mm in most running shoes.
- Heel Flare – Running shoes may have a flared heel for stability for runners and to protect their ankles. Flared heels are especially seen in trail running shoes. Walking entails that you mostly strike the ground with your heel, and most walking shoes will have an undercut heel rather than a flared heel. Fitness walkers should avoid a flared heel and rather opt for an undercut or built-up heel.
- Flexibility – Most running shoes flex in the arch or the midfoot area, whereas running shoes for stability and motion control will be much less flexible. Both a running shoe and a walking shoe do need to flex. However, walking shoes will flex more in the toe area for push-off. A shoe that flexes in the arch area is not quite suitable for walking. So if you consider a running shoe for walking, I would rather opt for a stability or motion control running shoe.
Features of a Good Adidas Walking Shoe
- Uppers – Walking shoes need to have comfortable uppers with a stretchable fit or a roomy regular fit. They can be mesh, knit, or leather.
- Comfort and Cushioning – You need support and cushioning features in a walking shoe, such as the Boost or EVA midsole, and a Cloudfoam or cushioned insole.
- Outsole – Rubber is the best option for an outsole in a walking shoe, with the addition of a high traction tread.
- Options -There are some color and size options available in the Adidas shoe models that we have chosen for you.
